Proverbs 17:22 – “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” |
I am a strong believer that a person’s attitude affects their outlook on life and helps determine their quality of life and health. If one is generally upbeat and positive, negative circumstances don’t seem to cause them long term despair and depression.
The heart is the center of our inner life. If our hearts are happy and content, our bodies, spirit, and words will be favorable and our relationships will be stronger and more meaningful. On the other hand, if our hearts are crushed and broken, the condition of our bodies will be weak and depressed.
So, if a merry heart is important for good health and attitude how can we cultivate joy? Spending time in God’s Word, meditating on His promises, and prayer are guaranteed ways to do your heart some good. Taking time to soak in nature’s beauty also make our hearts glad. The psalmist sang, “For you make me glad by your deeds, LORD; I sing for joy at what your hands have done” (Psalm 92:4).
To me the ultimate source of joy is found in relationship with Christ, family and friends. When we take time each day to thank God for His gifts and consider all that He has done for us we can’t help but be glad! Gratitude helps our attitude.
Dear Lord, I am so thankful for everything you have given me. Thank you for the beauty all around us from your creation. My heart is so grateful with thanks. Help me never to forget the gifts of life and love. Amen
