1 Peter 3:8 – “Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous.”
This is a pretty good checklist for followers of Christ! It reminds me of the time that my husband and I had a going away party for his parents, with 200 guests. We took months preparing for it. Most everyone we invited were church friends.
To this day, I think one of the most interesting things about the party was the observations from our non-Christian friends. They said they had never been to a party like this before…where the guest served one another. “When we go to a party, we walk in expecting to be served. At this party, people were coming in the door and seeing what they could do to help.” They were right…people answered the door, served drinks, served food, helped my husband with the BBQ, picked up trash, helped entertain my small children and even helped to clean up when the party was over.
Truly, these friends walked in the door and made my concerns their concerns. They acted as if it was their own home! We were like-minded. Nobody thought of themselves as being too good to be a servant. The actions that evening fit into all the categories of this Scripture as there was peace and harmony in the atmosphere. A beautiful example for Christianity was set. Everyone had a great time, and many hands made light work down to the smallest detail of entertaining.
Let me encourage you to find a Christ centered church home if you don’t already have one. The church is a large family that loves and cares for each other. A wonderful blessing in this life!
Prayer: Lord thank for saints that are committed to love one another. Fix my heart, that I seek ways to serve others and not just my on interest. Father, thank you that you came to serve humanity and showed us the way to live. In Jesus name, amen.
