2 Peter 1:3 – “We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God.” |
Shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began, I started having my groceries delivered. It was so easy to go online and decide what I wanted and a few hours later, or maybe the next day, everything was delivered to my door. No hassles with parking or standing in line – it was wonderful.
One week I decided I was in the mood to bake and wanted to make my favorite orange cookies. I used to make them with my mom when I was younger, and the memories filled my heart. I completed my shopping order, making sure I had flour, sugar, eggs, and of course an orange. I would be needing both the juice and the zest for the frosting. I added other things for my regular order and waited anxiously for the next morning when my items would be delivered.
About an hour before I expected things to arrive, I received an email saying there was one item that was sold out and unavailable – my orange! The most important ingredient! The weather was cold and rainy, and the last thing I wanted to do was to go somewhere looking for just one orange! What a disappointment!
Today’s verse reminds us that things are not out of stock and no special trips are needed to find what is missing so we can be ‘good enough’ to serve God – he takes us as we are then provides all we need. Are we lacking in faith, peace, or joy? All we need to do is ask and he will deliver.
Prayer: Dear Father – thank you that you have provided all I need to serve you. My gifts and talents, a heart of worship, service to others — you give me just what I need. Help me to feel worthy of those gifts, and to seek out ways to use them. Amen
