Luke 10:38 – “As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.” |
Martha’s action in today’s text is a great lesson for us. Seizing the opportunity when Jesus and His disciples arrive in her village, she invites them into her home. Following her example, what a difference it would make throughout each day if we take time to invite Jesus into our homes, workplaces, schools, communities, and circumstances. Intentionally inviting Him into all aspects of our lives helps us to successfully and peacefully navigate through both the mundane and chaotic occurrences unfolding throughout our daily existence.
Another lesson we glean from Martha is we do not have to be perfect following our invitation. Shortly after extending the invitation Martha became so distracted and exasperated at her sister’s actions she fails to bask in presence of the LORD. However, we can rejoice, for Jesus’s gentle reminder to Martha that “few things are needed – or indeed one….and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:42) is still applicable for each of us.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We are so grateful that the King of Kings and LORD of LORDS desires involvement in our daily existence. Help us remember to pause and invite Jesus into every aspect of our daily lives. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
