Who Am I? – Jeremiah 1:5

Who Am I?

Jeremiah 1:5 – “before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…”“before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…”

One of the often unspoken but real goals through childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, and even sometimes old age is to figure out self-identity 0r, who am I’. A few generations back, many leaned toward self-identification – as well as identifying others by what we “do” or what we “did” or “will do”.

Recent generations, who have grown up with electronic media may use one or more media sources to make themselves appear just like they want others to think of them. Or, they may try to find identity in who they follow on various media. All the above techniques, however, leave a person often feeling empty, dissatisfied, or even desperate.

God tells us in Galatians 3:28 that we are all equally loved by God “…there is neither male or female, Jew, or Gentile, master or slave; for you are all one in Jesus Christ”. In Jeremiah 1:5 God shows us how intimately God knows each of us when scripture reveals, “before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…”. In I Colossians 12:4 we find out that “there are all varieties of strengths and abilities (in people) that the same God gives them through his Holy Spirit”; thus, we are unique because He has always known us and purposefully given Each person their own capabilities.

Rather than looking at what others’ strengths or talents are that we don’t have or can’t replicate, we can instead begin to purposefully notice what God has lovingly supplied to us each. So, if we use a starting place to describe “who am I?” this truth is ours:

I am a child of a loving God who has been made to be who I am by God of All.

Rely on this reality and you can feel more secure and make your days easier!
