Comfort and Encourage One Another
Lightning over Plains
Hebrews 12:14 – “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”

I was huddled in the corner of an overly crowded storm shelter while tornado sirens blared. There was a confirmed tornado just a few miles from my house and headed my way. The shelter was cramped and claustrophobic. Children were crying and several men were trying to follow the news on their cell phones but unable to get a good signal from our underground shelter. It was dark and damp and scary, but most everyone was concerned for those around them and helping to calm the nerves of those who were afraid.

After about 30 minutes, the sirens stopped and one of the men left the shelter to check the news. He learned that the bad weather had moved further east, and that we were going to be safe. We waited a bit longer for the rain stop, and soon the sun was peaking through the clouds. By the time one of my neighbors walked me home, it was almost impossible to tell how bad the weather had been. A few birds were even chirping in the trees. I was so thankful that I had been with friends and neighbors and not alone, and that we could find peace together in the storm.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you that we can experience your peace during the storms of life. And thank you for others around us who live lives of peace and harmony with those they know well, and those they had not met before.
