Two are Better Than One

Ecclesiastes 4:9 – “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed”

I came home from work yesterday with a mission on my mind. Get the grass mowed! My wife reminded me that she had thawed out chicken thighs for me to grill, so I told her I could do both. I got my grubby lawn-mowing clothes on, then headed out to get started.

I put on my back brace (when I remove it, I get this sensation of my stomach falling out on the ground), my ear protection, my eye protection, and then filled the fuel tank on the mower and the trimmer. I was out of oil/gas mix for the trimmer, so I was going to see how far I could go on half a tank. After starting the charcoal, I trimmed the back yard and the front yard. I put the chicken on the grill. While I was doing all this, Mary Linda was mowing the back yard. She finished and went to mowing the front yard. I edged everything, occasionally stopping to turn the chicken thighs over.

Our son, Jackson, came home from work, and caught the fever. He got out the shovel and dug up our Indian Hawthorn that were bitten back in our 2021 snow and ice storm. They came up easily (for him). “Can I help mow?” Sweet words to a parent. He finished up the front yard, side yard and the alley yard, relieving Mary Linda. I would not have given much on our chances of getting the yard completed in one hour, but we did. I had just enough fuel/oil mix to finish blowing off the walk, street, and driveway. Oh, and tonight we ate the grilled chicken.

Sometimes I defeat myself with negative talk that runs in my mind, telling me “You can’t do that!” But then before you know it, you have surprised that voice and done it. Father in heaven, help me to follow Your lead, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
