In Need

Matthew 9:36 – “When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

Occasionally, I lead our Spanish worship in song. This week, Juan is out of town, and Lenin asked me if I would do it. I accepted the job. I had already committed to lead the singing in our English PM worship the same day. So, I took the time to select songs for both services. I enjoy that part.

I try to select songs that inspire me, that lift me up and encourage me. Songs that get me singing with enthusiasm and feeling. I figure, if a song gets me going, maybe it will have the same effect on someone else, especially if I can get behind it with some of my own enthusiasm. I heard my wife and Charla Stigers discussing a song after our evening services last Sunday. They both liked the song “In Need”. I like the song also, so I stuck it on my song list. It hits me between the eyes, so to speak. This line in particular: “In need of things that only You can give to me.”

Yes, if I can approach God on my knees, as someone recognizing my situation as it truly is, I can find the way. As the publican (tax collector) prayed, “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.” His eyes not even daring to look up toward heaven. We are in need of a Savior. Father in heaven, thank You for providing for our most pressing needs, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
