John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that none should perish but that all should have eternal life.” |
We need people rather than all the things we have.
We need the physical necessities of life, things like food, water, sleep.
But we need something even more, something rare. Without it, we will not survive.
What is that? Let’s let Gisele tell us.
Today, Gisele’s favorite song is “You are My Sunshine.” But Gisele had a rough start to life.
Born to a crack mother, her mother abandoned her to ICU. Massachusetts took custody and transferred the eight-month-old to another public hospital ICU with a feeding tube.
For five months, Gisele had no visitors.
That’s where Liz Smith comes in. She is a nurse in the hospital where Gisele was. She saw her and asked a fellow nurse who she was. She could not have children, so she applied to foster the child.
She said, “I felt that I needed to love this child and keep her safe.”
It is this need that God reached down to fulfill. The golden text of the Bible captures the love of God and the need of each one of us in a single sentence.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that none should perish but that all should have eternal life.
It was the one thing that we, in our weakened human state, could not do. We were much like Gisele, waiting for someone to care for us.
On October 18, 2018, Liz Smith could give her name to Gisele in adoption. “You are My Sunshine” is even more appropriate today.
That’s what happens when someone takes you to love. We all need someone to love and someone to love you.
