“For the Lord is good…” It’s so easy to take that for granted, isn’t it? Of course the Lord is good, He’s the Lord, for heaven’s sake. It’s part of what makes Him God. Goodness + Love + Holiness + infinite other wonderful things = God.
But what if He wasn’t? Imagine—just for a moment—what it would be like to serve a god who was not good. To live in fear that the terrible wrath of an angry deity was forever about to fall on your head. Over the centuries, untold millions of people lived like that. Sadly, many still do.
Fortunately for us, the Lord IS good. And since He is the same “yesterday, today and forever,” He always will be. He’s not lurking behind a cloud looking for an excuse to impale you with a lightning bolt. Instead, He’s looking for opportunities to bless you. Because He’s good like that.
Prayer
Father God, with everything going on around us, we sometimes forget that You are good. Forgive us, Lord. Today, this moment, we praise you—not for what you’ve given us but because of Who You are. Because You are good. Because Your love endures forever. Because Your faithfulness continues through all generations. Not some generations…all. Amen.
