James 2:23- “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.” |
As followers of Jesus we have several monikers including believers, Christians, disciples and sheep. Each suggests the blessings we experience from knowing Jesus as our Savior. However, how many of us feel we can be called God’s friend, just as Abraham was?
Being God’s friend entails doing as Abraham did. Because of his belief in the LORD, Abraham willingly left all that was familiar to travel to a distant and unknown place. He chose not to let seemingly impossible situations, such as the promise of having a child despite his advanced age, curtail his belief of what the LORD is capable of doing. His obedience and trust in the LORD and His goodness was solid even, when the LORD waited until the last minute before stopping the sacrifice of his long awaited and beloved son, Isaac.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of Abraham to help us understand what it means to be called Your friend. Help us daily grow in our faith and trust in You so we are always joyously obedient to doing Your will. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
