Psalm 84:5,7 – “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. They go from strength to strength, until each appears before God in Zion.”

A quick search on the Internet produces hundreds, if not thousands, of tips for building strength. Developing strength as described in today’s text is not obtained through multiple visits to the gym, nor by consuming an abundance of foods rich in protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. Although having physical strength is important for our health, it is not the type of strength sustaining us when we face challenges – especially those unfolding within the most desolate and desperate situations.

Building this type of strength requires an understanding that the LORD is the only source for the strength we need. This type of strength is not dependent upon our skill level, training, or any other personal attributes except for a heart totally submitted to and fully trusting in Him. Continuing to grow in this type of strength involves developing an ever deepening relationship with Him.

A vital part of this relationship is being devoted to praying and being in His word on a daily basis. Through such activities, we can recognize that even when we are at our weakest point, powerless to do anything, He will provide us all we need and will propel us to go from strength to strength.

Dear Heavenly Father, we are blessed beyond measure because you provide all that is needed for us to go from strength to strength. When circumstances try to divert our gaze away from You, help us remember You are the only source of strength we need. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
