| 2 Kings 4:2 – “Elisha replied to her, ‘How can I help you? Tell me what do you have in your house?’ ‘Your servant has nothing here at all,’ she said, ‘except for a small jar of olive oil.” |
When we are faced with problems such as needing to finish a difficult project or navigating through a relationship challenge, we may feel like the financially strapped widow in today’s text. Like she did, we may feel that we are facing a strenuous circumstance with limited resources.
Elisha’s strategy of asking the widow to take inventory of the resources she had could be instrumental in helping us as we face tumultuous situations. Just as the widow identified a tangible resource, a small amount of olive oil, we too might have access to physical resources.
However, our resources also include intangible ones. These may include the various ways the LORD has equipped us to meet challenges using such things as skillsets or past experiences.
Most importantly, as believers, our most precious resource is the LORD. When uncertain about what we should do, we need only to ask and He will generously pour out His wisdom which helps us to take the appropriate steps for resolution.
However, He may sometimes direct us to totally surrender the situation to Him. When we are obedient to His instructions, we can become rich in resources such as peace, hope, and comfort.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that regardless of what obstacles we may face, you remain our most precious resource and help in time of difficulties. In the Strong Name of Jesus. Amen
