The Music of Nature – Psalm 19:3

Psalm 19:3 – “There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their utterances to the end of the world.”

Yesterday evening, I went outside to start the charcoal fire in the grill. My wife was marinating chicken thighs for me to cook. Our son Jackson came home from work and joined me outside. “Did you hear that?” I had just heard our woodpecker. We listened quietly and there it was soon after. His jackhammer sound on a neighbor’s tree. A few days ago, he was hammering on our chimney cap. Not sure what he was after. It is steel. Makes quite a racket. Jackson got me a birdfeeder for my birthday, and big jug of birdseed. It claims correctly that it will attract cardinals (it has), blue jays (it has), sparrows and others. It has drawn pesky squirrels and cottontail rabbits. I say pesky squirrels, because they sit on the feeder and keep the birds away. I tried putting crisco shortening on the pole. Didn’t slow them down a bit. I witnessed one shimmying right up it. The rabbits feed on what falls to the ground. Quite a wildlife gathering I have been blessed to witness. The woodpecker is a red headed one. What are they trying to tell me. The psalmist says they have no voice, but they say a lot.

They are all telling me they were created by a wonderful God. He made redbirds, male and female, and I ALWAYS see them in pairs. The blue jay is beautiful with his peak. I was able to photograph the woodpecker. I love to hear his sound. Mockingbirds sing to me sometimes. I listen as they go through their top 40 hits. Amazing what our God has done. One small piece of His creation are the birds in our backyard. I glanced up the other night. Something asked for my attention. It was a full moon. “God made me to be a night light.” It is quite a sight. Father in heaven, thank You for making this chorus of voices to sing Your praises. Help me to do the same, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
