| 1 Corinthians 10:11 – “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. “. |
Temptation is a battle for every Christian, but God does not tempt anyone. However, He is sovereign over everything, including our temptations. He knows our weaknesses, and we can trust in His faithfulness when facing temptation. This doesn’t mean that the temptations we face are easy, or that we can face them on our own. Relying on God is the key.
Listen, you aren’t alone. There are others who struggle with that same sin that you do. Most are not unique to us and others have most likely battled something similar. This is often encouraging for tempted Christians who feel no one will understand their struggles. It also prevents just giving up. If someone else has overcome the same temptation, there’s hope for us too.
We cannot overcome temptation by our own strength, but by God’s strength. We can do this when we keep our eyes on God and walk with him closely. Don’t concentrate or ponder on the things that tempt you, rather look to the one who gives you strength to overcome.
The next time you are tempted, immediately turn your attention to God. He’s right there beside you. He will provide a way out. Run to him!
Rest in God’s sovereignty, faithfulness, and strength to overcome.
