Lamentations 3:24-25 – “I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him.’ The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him.”
Recently I sat immersed in worry while focusing on several unsettling situations. These included a critically ill family member, predicted inclement weather that could be disruptive and cause property damage, and a loved one whose marriage was in crisis. The more I thought about each situation, the more discouraged and hopeless I felt.
After wasting over an hour entrapped by negative thoughts, I finally offered up a quick prayer asking for help with these concerns. Almost instantly, the phrase “Hold on a sec” popped into my head.
This phrase was a reminder to pause and stop focusing on what I was worrying about. Doing so helped me redirect my focus to the LORD, for as today’s scripture reminds us, He is our portion. The resolution of any troubling situation is never found in worrying; instead, it is found in releasing all concerns to the One who is good to those whose hope is in Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us when we allow our concerns to dominate our thoughts. Help us to cease yielding to the temptation of ruminating over troubling situations. Instead, let us remember that You are good to those whose hope is in You and who seek you. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
