I went shopping – an hour from where I live. It was at one of those “bargain” stores-where the vacuum cleaners are refurbished, items sold cheaper, etc. Well – I went to get a vacuum cleaner. Forty-five dollars later, I saw the vacuum I wanted (there were other things I needed). I was at the check out counter – and I said “This is a dangerous place! Really, I came in to get just one thing!” She replied, “Well, did you get that one thing? “Yes.” I laughed. Good question actually.
She then went on to ask me if I had a rewards card with them, got all of my information, told me I was to receive a coupon in the mail for 50% off (I was hoping I could use it right then. Oh well), then proceeded to check me out, handed me the receipt, and told me to have a good day. While putting my groceries away in the back of my vehicle, I noticed 3 little items at the bottom of the shopping basket that, amidst the rewards card and everything, I did not hand her. Did not even notice them. Forgot completely about them Of course the proverbial voices ran through my head. “They will not miss it. They will never know.” I got into the car, wrote the items down on the receipt, and said out loud “I will give it to them next time.” “No!” God is watching, man. I can’t do this! I gotta go tell them now.” I have been going on to myself – how The Lord sees the slightest things. The whispers in the dark. The unfair deals in hush whispers. Dirty deals behind closed doors. How can I do this – and excuse it before my Lord? So I go in-line out into the aisle behind. Then I spotted my teller walking toward the back of the store. I walked extremely fast and intersected her . “I did not see these. It was my fault.” So she told the store manager. “Go check her out!” He said. Then he yelled the tellers’ name and said “Give her my discount.” That is 20% off” She said. Even if he hadn’t (which was a blessing), my conscience was clear. That meant everything. So it was fifty dollars above the cost of the vacuum. It was worth it;) ” He that is faithful in that which is least is also faithful in much; and he that is unjust in the least is unjust in much.” Luke 16:10
