James 1:27 – “Pure religion in the sight of the Lord is caring for the widows and orphans in their distress.” |
My three brothers and I have been working hard to get our mother moved to a new apartment. It is a downsize, so we had to make decisions about what to keep. My wife and I took a hutch that matches our kitchen table. They belonged to my dad’s parents. Seeing their furniture brings lots of good memories to mind. We also took a glider porch swing, an ironing board and iron. I was toting a box over to Mom’s new place, which was the adjacent building, when one of her neighbors stopped me. “Are you moving her today?” Me: “Yes. 3rd floor next door.” Her: “I will check on her.” My brother found a box of Bibles. I recognized them. My grandparent’s and parent’s Bibles. We debated about them. We have our own Bibles, and did not think we would look at theirs. It is hard to toss a Holy Bible in the trash. God’s Word is holy, and best written in our hearts. It requires reading and meditation.
Father in heaven, thank You for Your holiness. Thank You for helpful neighbors! Help us to be changed by Your word, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
