II Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” |
Praying is an act of humility. In praying we acknowledge our limitations and our need for God’s help, that’s the easy part for me. I’m well aware that I’m not God and that I need help in my everyday living. Making a daily practice of seeking God and turning away from selfishness, greed, etc. — well, now that’s a whole different story. This passage shows us a pathway to living a full life however, if we’re not careful, we get swept up in greed, fear and a false sense of security. God shows us joy is found elsewhere, specifically in a life of service and humility. The result of a life of prayer and humility is the complete joy that comes with a healthy relationship with God. Turning our face toward Him we can experience abundantly living, just as God intended. In this life, we experience joy when we are loving God and loving others. Scripture tells us, to love others is to love God.
