My wife and I were ushers at church. We greet the saints as they enter for worship. We hand them a bulletin also. During my idle moments, I noticed all the preparations going on, and all the buzz over the crowd. Like a bee hive or ant hill, it seemed. Mike walked up. Me: Hey Mike. Do you have an assignment today? I then pointed to his wife who had entered through a nearby door, and was sitting near where I was standing. Mike: Yes, I am worship coordinator. And you are my scripture reader. Me: Yes, I was just wondering who I should be checking in with. Glad you found me. I later read the scripture when my time came.
We have many assigned duties which help our service to go smoothly. Someone is leading our singing (and selecting songs as well). The scripture reading was selected by our guest speaker today, Jeff Jenkins. There are prayer leaders, there is someone who presents thoughts to prepare us for communion. There are guys running the sound and light booth, and someone to scroll the song slides. There is an army of guys to serve communion to us, and one duty is to fill the cups with grape juice. We have greeters at the outside doors to the building. We have security people distributed around, and medical emergency responders as well. Bible class teachers, hall monitors. Makes me feel a part of things when I do my little task as well.
Father in heaven, thank You for giving us the church, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
