Chicken Fried Faith – John 6:35

Chicken Fried Faith
John 6:35 –  “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me will never go hungry…”

A DFW restaurant rivals the milk and honey of the Promised Land.

It’s an oasis where problems disappear. A haven where stomachs are stretched. A sanctuary where souls are welcomed. A paradise where scales are banished.

It’s the one. The only. Babe’s Chicken.

If you’ve never experienced this Texas treasure, consider it your official call to pilgrimage.

My wife and I recently stopped in for our Babe’s Chicken “fix.” I browsed the collection of signs decorating the walls.  They’re all clever. Most of them are humorous. Some of them hit a little too close to home.

Yet on this night, I saw one I had never seen before, “If you leave Babe’s hungry, it’s your own fault.”

It’s hard to argue with that.

Everything at Babe’s is served family-style. Bowls of corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, pinto beans, salad, biscuits and gravy appear faster than Donald Trump can compliment himself. Just when you think the table is finally empty, someone appears asking if you’d like more.

It must be what heaven will be like.

Hungry? At Babe’s Chicken? That’s a choice—and a poor one at that.

Recently, I have been preaching through the Gospel of John. In chapter 6, Jesus makes the audacious, yet accurate claim, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me will never go hungry…” (John 6: 35, NIV)

Jesus had just fed the 5,000 with a couple of fish and five loaves of bread. Once the leftovers were gone and the crowd started wondering what miracle was next on the menu, Jesus redirected their vision. They weren’t supposed to chase another free meal. They were supposed to trust the One who provided it all.

Jesus wasn’t offering another lunch. He was offering Himself: The Bread of Life.

Our deepest hunger isn’t physical; it’s spiritual. We chase success, possessions, entertainment, approval, and a thousand other things, hoping they’ll satisfy the growling and groaning inside us. They never do.

If you’re hungry, the problem isn’t that Jesus lacks the ability to fill you. It’s that you haven’t feasted on The Bread of Life.

I realize many around the world face the heartbreaking reality of physical hunger. Families and communities wake up every day uncertain where their next meal will come from, and that burden should move us to compassion and generosity.

But there is no scarcity in Christ. If we leave hungry, it’s our own fault.

I encourage you to visit Babe’s Chicken. It will bless your week. More importantly, I plead with you to surrender to Jesus Christ. It will change your life.
