| Psalm 34:4 – “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” |
Trembling with fear, I stood beside my parents’ bed, afraid to wake them up but in need of comfort. I was quite young, maybe four or five years old, but had been having bad dreams and dreaded falling asleep again. Finally, I tapped my mother on her arm and she groggily opened her eyes. One look at the tears streaming down my cheeks was all she needed before she pulled back the covers and let me slip into bed between her and dad. Whispering softly (so as not to wake dad) she asked me what the trouble was. I told her I had a scary dream with a bad guy who was chasing me. She pulled me close and stroked my hair. “Well, there are no bad guys here. Do you think you can get back to sleep?” I curled up next to her and was enveloped by the smell of her perfume and the softness of her silky nightgown. Soon I was resting peacefully.
Dear friend, don’t you know that God is just waiting for us to bring our fears to him? We don’t need to be afraid to wake him because he never sleeps. He is always watching out for us, wanting what is best. He desires to take us into his arms, to brush away our tears, and to help us rest in the assurance of his love.
Prayer: Dear Father, sometimes I am so afraid and worried about things that are out of my control. Please help me to remember to run to you, to crawl up in your lap and let your arms of strength and comfort wrap around me. Your love is the answer to my fears. Amen
