John 13:35 – “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” |
For many years, I have been a part of an event we call “Cheer Baskets”. Neal Willoughby organized this at our church. We assemble baskets full of good things to eat and warm knit caps and scarves, some home baked goodies, apples and oranges, wrap it all up in cellophane and ribbon, and deliver them to those members of our church who are homebound. It is an opportunity to make visits.
Now, Neal is receiving baskets that he once delivered to others. I thought about that today as my wife and I delivered a basket to Linda. Linda: “I have delivered many of these, and now I am receiving them.”
It seems I always end up visiting Shirley Oler. And I don’t want to miss my annual trip to her house. I get to catch up with the news of her family, and she asks about mine. I got a photo of us together. She gave me something to take home. She always does.
One day, I realize I may be on the receiving end. And I will be glad to visit with someone making the delivery. The basket is the excuse we need to get together. The real gift being exchanged is love. Like God so loving us in giving us His son. Give a little love.
Father in heaven, thank You for visiting us with Your son, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
