Psalm 85:2 – “You took away your people’s guilt; you covered all their sin.” |
When I was in college, I woke up one Sunday morning to find there had been a light dusting of snow that was covering the grass and trees, and my car of course. As someone who had grown up in the Midwest, shoveling and scraping snow was nothing new, but was certainly not my favorite thing to do. After cleaning my car, I drove to the local church I was attending while in school. Near the parking lot was a huge tree that had been damaged in a storm the past summer. There were broken and missing branches and its contorted form was an ugly contrast to what it used to be. However, on this morning all the scars were covered by the snow, and once the sun came out, it glistened like it was covered with diamonds. The reflection was so bright I could barely look at it. All the hurt and damage was hidden from view.
How thankful I am that God’s love covers the ugly parts of my life once I have asked for forgiveness. He doesn’t look at me as damaged or defective – I can stand sparkling and pure before Him, not as someone filled with guilt and shame. But although snow melts and physical hurts re-appear, I trust that I can be covered daily by his love that washes me so I can be whiter than snow.
Prayer: Dear Father – thank you that your love covers my sins, and that I can stand before you unafraid. I have no power to cover my sin and guilt, but your love erases them all and I am pure and clean in your sight. Help me to walk worthy of this amazing gift. Amen
