| Hebrews 12:3 – “Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart..” |
Being that I have 2 weeks off (the week of Christmas and the week after), I scheduled my annual physical for the 21st. I went the Friday before and got blood drawn and gave a urine sample so that we can discuss the results at the physical exam. He told me all my numbers were good except for my blood sugar. I am now in the pre-diabetic range. He checked last year and it has been trending up. “This is controlled with nutrition.” Me: “So, no sweets? How about potatoes? Orange juice?” Doctor: “Orange juice is sugar water. A glass is the equivalent of 3 oranges. Who in their right mind eats 3 oranges for breakfast?” I did not answer, but I would. I love fruit and would eat 3 of the mini cuties in a sitting. I eat grapes, apples, pears, peaches, plums. Doctor: “Potatoes, if you eat a baked potato, only eat half a potato.” I love potatoes in any form. Baked, mashed, french fried, potato chips. So, my new lifestyle involves giving up things I love, not to mention sweets. I can give them up, or face a rough road ahead, including less time with my loved ones possibly. I have chosen to take his advice and do the hard thing. Can you imagine Jesus giving up the joys of heaven to become one of us? When someone dies, I sometimes say they are not thinking about this place, as they are having a grand time in heaven. But to think of the opposite situation is mind boggling. The only reason one would do that is love. Jesus did the loving thing. He loves us more than He loves what Heaven offers Him. Father in heaven, thank You for loving us, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
