Proverbs 15:28 – “ The heart of a righteous person contemplates before answering.” |
The “heart” here as elsewhere in Proverbs points to the intellectual/emotional aspect of a person. The point is that a righteous person reflects before speaking so that the words that he speaks are both sympathetic and helpful. He wishes to avoid saying anything false, or inexpedient, or injurious to his neighbor. On the other hand, “the mouth of wicked people pours out evil things.” Such people speak recklessly, impulsively, without any reflection. Hence they do a great deal of damage.
