Psalm 31:1-2 – “How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” |
I am sure I am not the only one who feels at times like David when he wrote these heart wrenching words in today’s text. This may be because of a challenging family or financial situation without an apparent resolution. Or, it could be due to a lingering illness or workplace strife causing us to wrestle with negative thoughts and/or weigh us down with deep sorrow.
When wanting to ask “How long LORD? Will you forget me forever” we can choose to instead declare as David did in Psalm 13:5: “I will trust in your unfailing love.” In doing so, our focus shifts from the distressing circumstances to the LORD. For, He is the One who through His unfailing love we can implicitly trust to guide us victoriously through our troubling situations.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for loving us even when barraging you with our doubts and questions of “How much longer?” When we are feeling distressed, help us remember to declare with earnest and open hearts “I will trust in your unfailing love.” In the Strong Name of Jesus. Amen.
