| James 1:191 – “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,” |
We did it! Camp Cousins is over, and we used this verse for daily rewards for every child who practiced it! This is just good wholesome advice! So practical for fostering effective relationships.
People feel appreciated when they are heard! It is quite masterful to be one who is quick to listen rather than quick to assume! Take time before responding, put yourself in the other persons shoes and try to be understanding. Listening gives us a chance to learn something and to become a bit wiser.
Think carefully before you speak. Especially if you are mad! Our words have power, and they can quickly build up or tear down.
Take a few seconds to think how your words might encourage the one you are speaking to. It’s quite impressive when you can pull this off in your anger!
We admire those who exercise self-control and master their temper. There is dignity in being that person! Nobody likes to be around a hot-tempered soul. They are selfish! They have their own interest at heart and have a way of ruining everyone’s day around them.
If we are going to live in peace with those around us, we cannot let anger control us. Anger can cloud our judgment and transform us into being someone we don’t even like! Anger is wrong when we let our emotions take over as it can cause serious relationship damage and even embarrass ourselves! It’s self-sabotaging!
It is so much fun being around kids and adults when they exercise self-control and patience with each other! A wise person takes time out to examine his life and make appropriate changes as needed. Take heart and do whatever it takes to be that person who lives with honor and dignity! It will add so much joy to your life!
