I Can’t Believe My Eyes! – 2 Corinthians 5:7

I Can't Believe My Eyes!
2 Corinthians 5:7 – “We live by faith, not by sight”

When someone says, “I Can’t Believe My Eyes!”, they’ve either witnessed or experienced something they couldn’t fathom or didn’t expect. Whether it be an indescribable creation scene, unlikely sports comeback, unusual character, or unpredictable result, “I Can’t Believe My Eyes!” announces divergent outcome(s).

Holy Scripture echoes the same sentiment.

The apostle Paul reminded the church at Corinth, “We live by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5: 7, NIV). What we see and what we believe are often in conflict. Faith suffers when it depends on what eyes see.

Noah worked on an “ark” for over 100 years not because of what he saw, but because of what he heard. Noah had never seen rain (Hebrews 11: 7). He had never felt the drops on his head or smelled the fragrance from its falling. He had only heard God’s mission for his life; but for Noah, hearing was enough to keep building.

And for us, it should be, too.

According to Romans 10: 17, faith comes by hearing the word of God. This declaration isn’t a great bumper sticker or conclusion to a sermon. It’s reality.

Don’t allow what you see to overpower what God has said.

Comfort is drawn to sight.

• They have a bigger house; therefore, they have a better career.

• They went to a prestigious university; therefore, they have a better education.

• They drive a nicer car; therefore, they make more money.

• They take elaborate vacations; therefore, they make better memories.

• They receive more awards; therefore, they have more satisfaction.

• They have a bigger church; therefore, they do more Kingdom work.

• They spend a lot of time at church; therefore, they are closer to God.

• They have their name on many buildings; therefore, they understand generosity.

You can’t always believe your eyes.

Growth, however, is drawn to what we hear.

We live by faith, not by sight; don’t try to force it the other way around.

My friend, you can’t always believe the world’s message to your eyes but you can always believe God’s message to your ears. So, listen carefully.
