1 Corinthians 13:4 – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” |
I believe the true meaning of the love mentioned in this verse is a Godly love that seeks the welfare of others before that of oneself. When we have true love in our hearts, we think about what we say and how it will be perceived by others before we speak. In addition, we will practice true love by showing kindness and patience to all we encounter.
Let’s face it! Only Jesus Christ can accomplish true love but He urges us continuously keep trying. It takes a lot of effort for a really long time.
It has been said that patience or “long-suffering” is the root of self-discipline. Patience is solid, like an unbeatable weapon that defeats anything that touches it. It gives deep calmness and tranquility to one’s soul. That promise is worth the effort.
Heavenly Father, develop in us the Godly fruit of love. May we live in love and seek to love as Christ loved. Keep us from jealousy and boastfulness, and may the love of Jesus be seen in and through us by the power of Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
