Memorizing Prayer
Colossians 1:9-12

Memorizing Prayer
Studying the Bible, reading the scriptures.
Colossians 1:9-12“For this reason we also, since the day we heard about it, have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled witht the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all perseverance and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, Who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.”

Last year my sister sent me a text saying she was memorizing Colossians 1:9-12 and praying it every day for her family. I love the Scripture and love a challenge, so I decided to memorize it and pray it as well.

After I read it, I wasn’t sure that I understood exactly what it meant. The first sentence being ‘Lord, fill me with the knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.’ Hmmm, what does that mean? I just memorized it, thought about it a lot, and prayed in faith every day knowing that the Lord would give me understanding. Can I just say…WOW! God is good. I prayed in faith, and He gave it to me. I’m beginning to understand the benefits of meditating on His Word.

The Scripture also states, ‘Strengthen me with all might according to your glorious power for all patience and long-suffering with joy.’ That’s a long sentence, and not sure I could maintain the full meaning in one thought. But, after praying faithfully every day, this is one thing that happened to me…I found out that a few people have been making false accusations against me because of my faith. As soon as I heard the allegations, I was filled with joy. Weird, huh? I didn’t even understand it at first. I was telling my son about the accusation and how I was happy about it and did not understand why or how could I find joy in slander? I remembered my daily prayer, and then he reminded me that Matthew 5 says, “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven…’

Ephesians 6:16 says that ‘above all, take the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.’ I’m just saying, there is power in the Word, and power in prayer. These things that I have been praying while not completely understanding anything other than it is what the Lord wants for me, were answered in the affirmative. I have been filled with more knowledge and understanding of God and how He works in us. It is very cool! Pick a Scripture that is especially meaningful to you and pray it daily. You will be amazed at the results. I went into it trusting and not understanding. The Lord gave me understanding. God is good! Pray that we find a renewed love and dependency upon the words of Scripture, and that God transforms our hearts and lives.
