David, King of Israel, was described as a "man after God's own heart". Through personal experience, he had learned that God has a preference for the humble of heart. Jesus makes this plain during His Sermon on the Mount: "God blesses those who are humble." He reiterated it in the Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector. God is pleased with us when we treat others as we want to be treated.
