Beside my bathroom sink, I have a daily (flip over) calendar. Each day has a Bible verse. I have been flipping this calendar since 1995. So, I have cycled through 365 verses 28 times now. Our middle son is 28, so as long as I have known him.
Today, this verse was before my waking eyes. “Our steps are made firm by the Lord, when He delights in our way; though we stumble, we shall not fall headlong, for the Lord holds us by the hand.” I immediately thought of my time during college in Norman, Oklahoma. I was attending the University of Oklahoma, and I was involved in a bus route at my church. We would drive several buses around town and pick up children to bring them to church. Their parents did not attend, but they got to come. We regularly took them to the skating rink on Saturday night. I would have one of these kids hanging on each of my arms as I skated around the floor. One would stumble, and use my arm to keep from busting their head or bottom-side on the concrete. I learned to keep my balance, for their sakes. I knew they were depending on me, and it kept me focused on what I was doing.
As I read today’s verse, I imagined God doing this for me. Many times, I have seen a life disaster way too close for comfort, and know that it was God who kept me from falling headlong. Father in heaven, thank You for helping me along the way, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
