| Psalms 116:7 – “Return, O my soul, to your rest: for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.” |
When our children were young and at home, there was rarely, if ever, in the family budget to enjoy a bit of self-care. School necessities, orthodontic care, summer camp, and unexpected medical costs, in addition to the usual monthly household expenses, left no extra money at the end of the month.
Now, after monthly expenses have been taken care of, I’ll occasionally treat myself to a one-hour massage. Just anticipating the comfortable and warm massage table draped in soft linen, soft lighting and soothing low volume instrumental background music as Susan applies warm lotion to my aging and weary muscles, makes me anticipate the visit even more.
Susan begins my massage by softly saying, “rest heavy, now, just rest heavy.” I can just feel my heart rate and breaths slowing down as I let my mind clear and my muscles free from tension. Gradually, the threatening world outside those doors becomes less harsh as I indeed, rest heavy.
As God’s children, He wants us to rest heavy in Him. We rest heavy in Him through prayer when we lay our cares and concerns before Him. Our soul rests heavy in Him when we ask for forgiveness of sins, knowing He is faithful to forgive our sins. Remembering God’s past faithfulness and knowing He’ll see us through future days helps our soul to rest heavy, trusting Him no matter our circumstances.
