| Psalm 100:2 – “Serve the LORD with gladness!” |
As I grow older, the things that bring me joy have changed. My wife and I helped cook breakfast at a Veterans Day event Saturday morning. My wife and I got married on Veterans Day in 1989. So, I have a good reason to remember it. After helping her scramble 10 dozen eggs and get hash browns in the oven, I stood near the serving line and greeted those passing by with their plate of food.
I watched as they drew cups of coffee, and decided it might be helpful if someone offered to carry their coffee to the table. I know that hand tremors can make it difficult to carry a drink in a cup. I asked if I could help, and some accepted the offer. We chatted as we walked to their table. When the roles are reversed, I hope I can be as gracious. Serving others can be a source of joy.
Father in heaven, help us to serve cheerfully, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
