The Ball – 2 Corinthians 13:5

The Ball
2 Corinthians 13:5 – “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? –unless indeed you fail to meet the test.”

On December 31st, as the clock sweeps toward a new year, a ball stands high over Times Square waiting for its fall.

Why such a strange tradition?

A Royal Navy captain watched the carnage of shps crashing into rocks and sinking. He knew the problem. It was their chronometer. Several men had to carry the box in which it rested to shore to synchronize it. Without this regular reset, navigation failed, and ships sank.

He developed a new procedure.

In 1833, the Navy installed a ball at Greenwich, the successor of which still stands today. Each day, at a specific time, the sight of the falling ball told dailors to reset their chronometers.

At 12:58 PM, the ball would rise to the top of the pole and fall at 1 PM. With this, sao;lors couild steer their ships with accuracy.

Do you need to synchronize your life?

Paul told the Corinthians how in the above verse.

Days without scripture dry a soul out. Prayer neglected creates distance from the creator and signals danger.

So, as the mariner di, reset your heart to God’s will for the year ahead.
