Galatians 5:22-23- “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

What kind of person would you like to be?

Many people have not thought about that.

Yet, this morning, for just a moment, I want you to consider that if you could describe your best self, what would it be?

Let’s talk to Alan. He found out.

Alan had a son named Christopher who loved to play with his stuffed animals

One day, the father took his son to the zoo in London.

Christopher loved the animals but the one that was his favorite was one he saw at the London Zoo–the Canadian Black bear.

He had a stuffed bear, along with a stuffed tiger and others.

He gave each a name, names you may have heard of–the bear was Winnie after the bear he saw at the zoo. Then there was Tigger, Kaga, Eeyore, and Piglet.

It then, as he watched his son play with these stuffed animals that Alan, or perhaps you know him better as A. A. Milne, wrote of a boy named Christopher Robin and his friend Winnie or as we know him, Winnie the Pooh. The name, by the way is Winnie comes from Winnipeg and Pooh was the name of a swan when Milne was a boy.

Since then, Winnie the Pooh has entertained children and adults for generations.

But what makes Winnie the Pooh so lovable?

Is it just the sound of his name?

Or the nostalgia of a child with a stuffed toy?

Or is it that Winnie the Pooh embodies all that we want for ourselves–gentle, kind, patient, and humble. Do you and I want to have more of those traits in our lives and therefore, reflect Winnie the Pooh?

Paul described these traits. They are called the fruit of the Spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22–23)

The truth is these come from a life pointed toward Christ. They are the fruit.

Let you be the person about whom people say, “I wish I was like that.”
