Genesis 8:22 – “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”
September begins the wonderful season of “ber” months. September with the start of school and cooler temperatures. October with harvest time and Halloween. November with its falling leaves and Thanksgiving and of course, December with the joyous Christmas season. They are each beautiful and much-anticipated each time of the year.
God put seasons into place when He created the heavens and the earth and what a joyous celebration each brings. The change in seasons is anticipated and longed for whether it’s the dream of a respite in the fall from the hot summer temperatures or the welcoming of spring when the winter’s chill has outlasted its welcome. God knew exactly what He was doing (of course!) when He created seasons. He did it partly for practical reasons such as planning in the spring followed by the harvest time of fall. But . . . we also have a thoughtful, loving God who gave the earth to us humans for us to enjoy its treasures. I can imagine a smiling God looking down on us when the first cold front hits in the fall and we exclaim with the delight about the chill in the air. I can also envision a grinning God when we reach down to pluck the first delicate flower blooms in the spring.
The world and its intricate workings and balance are a masterpiece created and perpetuated by a God who loves us and wants us to enjoy what He so lovingly created. As you breathe in the first crisp air of fall, as you enjoy the fruits of the harvest in October, as you watch colorful leaves swirl to the ground in November and bask in the glow of family and the joy of the Christmas season in December, remember to thank God who created these wonders and many more just for . . . you.
