The Lord Can’t Forget You

The Lord Can't Forget You

Isaiah 49:15-16 – “And I (the Lord) can’t forget you. Look, I have carved your name into my hand. I think about you all the time!”

Our grandson, Milo, is celebrating his 3rd birthday today, so I got up early in order to go see my mother in Fort Worth before the 3 PM party. I got out of bed just before 7. I planned to leave the house at 8. It is an hour each way, depending on traffic, of course. And early on Saturday, at least this one, it was an easy drive.

I stopped at Whataburger in her neighborhood to pick up breakfast for both of us. I parked and walked in, rather than doing the drive-thru. I wanted to look at the menu and not be rushed. The shift manager was helping me. I knew that because her shirt was grey, as compared to the others all in orange shirts. Coronda was the name on her badge. I gave her my order of two breakfast bowls, one with bacon and one with sausage. (They were very good, by the way.) I asked “How are you doing today?” She: “Pretty good. We are so busy right now.” Me: “Is your name pronounced Co-ron-da?” She: “Yes. What is your name?” Me: “Jeff.” She: “I am going to remember that.” Me: “I normally go through the car lane, but I do enjoy the face to face you get by coming inside.” She smiled. She gave me a table tent with my order number on it and I sat down to wait. She brought me my order a few minutes later. Me: “Thank you Coronda.” She: “Thank you, Jeff!” She remembered as promised. Using someone’s name is a nice touch.

Cashiers at Tom Thumb grocery used to hand me my receipt and say “Thank you Mr. Beall, you saved $4.25 cents today.” One reason they encouraged shoppers to become club members is so they could use your name at the checkout. It would be printed on your receipt.

Isaiah 49:16 says “Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands. . .” Can you imagine that God knows every name on the planet? He knows middle names as well. He doesn’t forget who we are, nor the name we are called by. I want to see God one day. And I hope I remember to look at His hands. Father in heaven, thank You for learning our names, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
