| 2 Chronicles 20:12 – “Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” |
Upon learning a vast army of several of their enemies had banded together and were coming for their total annihilation, King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah felt totally overwhelmed and with limited options. There are times in our lives during which we may feel a kinship with King Jehoshaphat and his people. It may be because we are simultaneously facing threats on multiple fronts, such as a toxic work setting, financial worries, or relationship struggles. Or, we may be facing a catastrophic medical condition so menacing that any hope is overshadowed by feeling overwhelmed and with limited options.
In such situations, we can learn much from what King Jehoshaphat and his people did in today’s text: they recognized that there was only one option. They needed to cease looking to their own strength and abilities and redirect their gaze to the One who possesses infinite power and wisdom. As we begin relying on this option, we can experience Him move in the most miraculous of ways to remedy our most difficult challenges.
