Psalm 106:1 – “Thank the Lord, because He is good! His love is forever.” |
Let’s first look at how God treats His children. God is good; His love endures forever. He saves us over and over. All through Scripture, we are given examples of God’s love for His children. For example, in the Old Testament, He caused all who held the Israelites captive to show mercy. Then, He led them through dry land in the middle of the Red Sea to save them. He redeemed them and drowned every one of their adversaries.
God takes note of our distress when He hears our cry; Out of His great love, he relents His punishment. God covers his children with so many kindnesses that He has very little, if any, tolerance for ungratefulness and rejection. Things that anger our loving and kind Creator, are his children doing wrong and acting wickedly.
When we give no thought to the miracles He has performed, forget about his many kindnesses, and when we do not wait for His plan to unfold, we rebel against Him. When we give in to our own cravings that do not bring honor to Him, when we worship anything other than Him and forget He is the God who saved us, we test Him.
There is trouble on the horizon when we do not believe His promises, we are envious of others, we grumble, complain, and do not obey Him. When we join with others who are not of God and adopt their customs and worship their idols, sacrifice children, shed innocent blood, we protest God.
The Lord is highly opposed to those who defile themselves and sell themselves out for wrongdoing. In response to these sorts of sins, the Lord sent a wasting disease among them, opened the earth to swallow them up and sent a fire to consume them. He not only pulled back His help, but He made their life more difficult. He sent plagues and gave them into the hands of other nations that were their enemies and let those nations rule over them.
Let’s avoid the pitfalls clearly outlined above as we honor God with our life. Thank God for giving us Jesus, so that we might have His everlasting kindness and forgiveness despite our many sins.
