I have always loved nature and many times my mom would find me sitting quietly in the woods on our farm or alongside the creek listening to the animals, the babble of the water, and the soft breeze in the trees. I would often get up early to observe a glorious sunrise and watch the world come to life. I had my own pony, and I would frequently ride to the far pasture and just sit silently to look at the clouds or listen to the birds singing their songs to each other. One summer we packed our camper and headed to the Black Hills, and I remember Dad stopping the car and we were all amazed as we saw the hundreds of bison that dotted the hillsides for as far as we could see. Another vacation took us to Colorado, and I fell in love with the grandeur of God’s handiwork – the immense mountains jutting up into the sky. How amazing it is to think that no matter the beauty that we see here on earth, it is but a fraction of the majesty that awaits us in heaven. The awe-inspiring colors of an early morning sunrise will be but a pale reflection of God’s radiance, once we are in the presence of our Lord.
Prayer: Dear Lord, creator of everything beautiful, I thank you for all the splendor that surrounds us each day, if we will but look. But more than that, I thank you for the majesty that awaits us once we join you in heaven. While we can only imagine what it will be like, I thank you for giving us a small glimpse of that now. Amen
