Your Fears – Joshua 1:9

Your Fears
Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

What are you afraid of?

It might surprise you.

Chapman University publishes an annual survery of Americans’ fears. THeir altest tells us that Americans fear:

Cyberterrorism

Losing someone they love

Running out of money in their golden years

A loved one getting seriously ill.

Most of these are the fear of what “might happen.”

God creates healthy fear to keep us from eating rancid food, taking care of ourselves, and watching out in traffic. The one we need to fear is the fearless, because they are reckless.

But God also provides a balm for fear.

As Joshua was about to dip his toe in the River Jordan and lead the people into the Promised Land, he must have shivered a bit. The future, with its unknowns, lay before him. Promises and problems are two sides of the same coin.

Yet, God said,

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

The future is fearful only if you enter it alone. But let God handle the future as you do what He asks today.

You are not alone so don’t be afraid.
