There are a lot of sermons and lessons about praising and honoring God when times are tragic and rightfully so. But what about praising and honoring God when things are great? During those times in life that you are having a really good week or you accomplished something great, do you still praise him and give him the credit? Many Christians struggle the most in their relationship with God when times are good.
David is a great example of honoring God during times of victory. In 2 Samuel 8, David’s military career is in its prime, and nearly every verse, from 1-14, mentions a defeated army at the hand of David. A regular practice of that day was to take articles of silver, gold and bronze as payment for victory over each enemy. After David takes his loot, we find this verse in 2 Samuel 8:11, “King David also dedicated these to the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated from all the nations which he had subdued.”
Does God get your honor, praise and glory when times are good for you? It’s so easy sometimes to forget God. When there is victory in our lives, we have a hard time remembering where it came from and who gave us the strength, ability and grace to conquer our enemy or our task.
Notice what God does a few verses later ub 2 Samuel 8:14. Do you desire help from God wherever you go? Then remember to honor Him in times of victory!
