Pleasing and Displeasing – Colossians 3:23-24

Pleasing and Displeasing
Colossians 3:23-24 –  “Whatever. you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for men…It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Our world is laser focused on being “pleasers.” It’s liquid gold that fuels motivation.
How often do you hear these “one-liners” in casual conversation?
·         “He’s just a people-pleaser!”
·         “Do as you please!”
·         “I aim to please!”
·         “They aren’t pleased!”
While the desire to please or be pleased can be thoughtful, it can also be tragic.
If you please God, it doesn’t matter who you displease.
If you displease God, it doesn’t matter who you please.
·         Servants of Jesus shouldn’t pattern their lives after the world’s “normal.”
·       We serve an audience of One. And He is true, balanced, fair, and just.
Peter boldly proclaimed to the Sanhedrin, “We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5: 29, NIV).
Paul provided another “pleasing” perspective when he penned, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for men…It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Colossians 3: 23-24, NIV)
Who are you aiming to please? Who are you striving to obey? How you answer that question defines how you live your life.
If you please God, it doesn’t matter who you displease.
If you displease God, it doesn’t matter who you please.
“Father, please help us to please you. In the pleasing name of Jesus. Amen.”
