I was visiting with one of my dear friends at a dinner party the other night. We were chatting about how awesome heaven is going to be! Then she looked worried and said, ‘I’m scared that I haven’t done enough to get into heaven.’ Today’s Scripture is exactly what this is talking about. We can’t do enough to get into heaven. ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’ Jesus did enough for us!
There is a spiritual debt-our sin-that God says must be settled. Jesus warned in the Sermon on the Mount, to make friends quickly with your opponent before you’re dragged to court and locked up. Same idea- while we’ve got time, make friends with Jesus. He calls us friends if we obey. Judgment Day is the final audit when the bill comes due. For most, it will be time to pay up.
When Jesus died on the cross, His last Words were “Tetelestai” which means ‘It is finished’, ‘the debt is paid in full’! Jesus paid the price for our sin! He makes all things possible! The.best.Friend.we.will.ever.have!
