| Galatians 6:2 – “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” |
Carrying a burden is heavy. Personally, when I hear the word burden, it brings back memories—both positive and negative—words I’ve heard repeated over time, whether uplifting or intended to harm.
This scripture specifically instructs us to carry each other’s burdens. But what are burdens? Simply put, they are loads or weights—typically heavy ones. A burden can also be defined as a duty or misfortune that causes worry, hardship, or distress. A burden has the power to crush, to shake, and to hold someone captive under intense pressure.
Because we all walk different paths, with different gifts and responsibilities in the Kingdom of God, this is a powerful reminder of why community within the body of Christ is essential.
Community uplifts. Community means you are not meant to carry the weight alone—you have others to help shoulder it, to encourage you to release it, or to help you hold on until God brings the answer.
I see this lived out in prayer, in meeting tangible needs—like providing food or helping pay a past-due bill. It can look like supporting a single parent in caring for their child, or helping someone who has lost hope gain the skills and confidence needed to secure a job. The list goes on.
This is a simple yet powerful reminder that God is with us and for us, and He calls us to lift each other up—to share the weight so that we can truly thrive in life and in His Kingdom.
So be in community—even if you start with just one person, even if it begins with simply asking for prayer.
Be encouraged: God will carry you through all things.
