| 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs.” |
Recently a friend did not follow through with something I needed. Focusing on the situation only increased the level of frustration and disappointment I felt toward my friend. When I finally stopped to pray about it, I was surprised by what I felt the LORD told me. His answer did not provide specific instructions on how to resolve the situation but instead prompted me to embrace an attitude of generosity.
While generosity is typically linked to the sharing of material goods, I knew it had to do with how I was viewing my friend. This meant the negativity I was harboring was to be replaced by patience and kindness. Having a generous attitude helped transition a situation of discord to one where His love was richly experienced by both of us.
Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive us when we want to hold on to negative feelings when disappointed or frustrated by others. Help us instead choose to show them Your love. In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
