Buddy and the Basket – Psalm 34:4

Buddy and the Basket
Psalm 34:4 – “I sought the LORD, and He answered me, He delivered me from all my fears.”

Most of the time our dog, Buddy, is easy going and fun to be around.  He enjoys playing with Toby and Sassy, our two other dogs.  He is always up for taking a walk or chewing on an assortment of doggie toys.

However, all his delightful ways disappear when he is frightened.  Whether it is thunder, fireworks, or any other unexpected loud noise, Buddy has the same response.  He climbs into a basket full of blankets in the bedroom and remains there until the “danger” passes.

Although it is obvious how ineffective Buddy’s reaction is, my response to “danger” is often the equivalent of jumping into a basket of blankets.  Whether it is focusing on my worries or phoning a friend, my initial reaction typically does nothing but magnify my fear.  It is only when I stop focusing on my fears and instead start praying that I experience a sense of relief and peace.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your promise that whenever we are afraid, we can always seek you for Your protection and peace.  In the Strong Name of Jesus, Amen.
