| Matthew 25:36 – “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” |
There are moments in life when there simply aren’t adequate words.
A difficult diagnosis. An unexpected hospitalization. A family sitting together waiting for answers. A caregiver who is exhausted and uncertain about what comes next.
In those moments, we sometimes feel pressure to say something profound or somehow make things better. But often one of the most meaningful things we can offer is much simpler.
We can show up.
We can sit. We can listen. We can pray when appropriate. We can remind someone through our presence that they don’t have to face a difficult moment alone.
That’s one of the things I appreciate most about the ministry of Lifeline Chaplaincy. Our chaplains enter some very difficult moments in people’s lives—not because they have all the answers, but because they genuinely care about people.
Sometimes caring begins by simply showing up.
Presence matters.
